The Citizen League Organization says it will closely monitor newly sworn-in members of Parliament in Chikwawa district to hold them accountable for campaign promises. Francis Mazinga, the group’s chief executive officer, urged MPs to consult residents before launching development projects, warning that top-down approaches often miss local needs.
Mazinga emphasized that meaningful engagement with constituents could improve how the Constituency Development Fund is used, calling it a powerful tool for change if managed properly. His remarks follow a pattern where lawmakers have historically failed to involve communities in decision-making.
The Malawi National Assembly’s 52nd session is set to begin on October 31, when President Peter Mutharika officially opens proceedings.
