Seminary student Luciano Lloyd was buried yesterday at the Diocese of Chikwawa cemetery reserved for priests. The 23-year-old died on February 26, 2025, after being struck by a vehicle whose driver left the accident scene immediately. Lloyd had been walking along the roadside when the tragic incident happened.
The funeral service was held at Kachebere Major Seminary in Mchinji. Archbishop George Desmond Tambala from the Lilongwe Archdiocese led the mass. He encouraged seminarians to place their lives entirely in God's hands. Many priests joined numerous seminary students at the service to honor Lloyd.
Before the burial, a memorial service took place at the Cathedral of Chikwawa Diocese starting at 9:30 AM. Lloyd came from Nkhate parish within Chikwawa Diocese. At the time of his death, he had reached his third and final year of studies at Kachebere Seminary and was preparing to move to Saint Peter's Major Seminary located in Zomba.
The seminary community feels deep sadness over losing such a promising candidate for the priesthood. Lloyd showed great potential for religious service before his unexpected death. His passing created a sense of loss throughout the seminary and his home community as they remembered a young man who appeared destined for important church service.
