Corrupt Cops Nab ₦151m From Diaspora Man

Senior lawyer Yemi Oke accused four police officers of stealing 151.5 million naira from a Nigerian man living abroad. The officers grabbed Segun Okubajo at his Lagos apartment without any criminal charges against him. Police broke into his home with guns and shut off all security cameras before dragging him away. They put chains on his legs and handcuffs on his arms during the trip to the Abuja police station. Okubajo's father hired Oke to fight for justice through legal complaints.

Officers wanted one billion naira from the family, but took 151.5 million naira after bargaining. Relatives borrowed cash from friends and business partners to pay the crooked police demands. The family joined savings groups and got loans to raise the huge amount of money needed. Two helpers worked with police to trick the innocent man and steal his wealth through fake charges. Officers scared the family after getting paid to stop them from telling authorities about the crime.

Oke wants police bosses to investigate the bad officers and return the stolen cash within two weeks. The legal paper asks for punishment against all four police officers who took part in the theft. Earlier complaints filed last November failed to end the scary threats against the victim's relatives. Segun Okubajo ran away from Nigeria after being paid, but still gets death threats from the same officers. The lawyer said court action will grow bigger if police leaders ignore their requests.
