Five cops nabbed for extorting $540 from driver

Five traffic officers from Marondera were taken into custody after allegedly forcing a motorist to hand over $540 during a roadblock stop. The Zimbabwe Republic Police officers, identified as Sergeant Mugutso and Constables Dzomba, Chabhanga, Rusinga and Madondo, had stopped Craig Nyandoro while claiming his recently imported vehicle lacked proper documentation despite his presentation of valid papers.

SARACO director Paddington Kadzungura confirmed that internal investigators conducted the operation after receiving notification about the extortion. Nyandoro was instructed to avoid settling with the officers, who attempted to negotiate a resolution before their apprehension. The suspects remain held at Marondera Police Station, facing extortion charges under criminal law statutes.
