Court Seizes Property, Freezes Accounts of Ex-Minister Nuruzzaman

A Dhaka court issued orders Monday targeting the assets of former social welfare minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed and his wife Hosne Ara Begum. Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib from the Metropolitan Senior Special Judges Court approved the seizure and freezing measures. The Anti-Corruption Commission submitted two separate petitions that led to this legal action. Officials will seize land parcels and vehicles belonging to the former minister. The court also directed banks to freeze multiple accounts held under both names.

The seizure covers extensive property holdings across different locations. Nuruzzaman loses a 10-katha plot located within the eastern region's new township area. Authorities will also take seven decimals of land situated within Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat district. A vehicle valued at Tk6.26 crore becomes part of the seized assets. The court targeted 25 bank accounts containing Tk81.65 lakh and 116 decimals of land belonging to his wife.

The Anti-Corruption Commission accuses Nuruzzaman of misusing his official position for personal gain. Investigators claim he acquired illegal assets from sources that remain unknown to authorities. The former minister allegedly hid the true origins of these funds through various transfers and conversions. These actions represent serious violations of public trust and financial regulations. The court had previously banned both Nuruzzaman and his wife from traveling abroad on February 13.
