Dangote Doubles Fortune as Refinery Shakes Global Energy

Aliko Dangote has almost twice as much money as last year! He owns $23.9 billion, which makes him the richest person in Africa and number 86 on the list of rich people around the world.

Mr. Dangote became much richer because he owned a big oil factory called Dangote Petroleum Refinery. He owns 92.3 percent of this factory. Last year, people said he had 13.4 billion dollars, but his new oil factory changed everything!

His oil factory can produce 650,000 barrels of oil every day—that's a lot! It started working last year after taking 11 years to build. Mr. Dangote spent $23 billion to build it. His factory helps Africa make its oil instead of buying it from other places.

Mr. Dangote has more money than other rich people in Africa. Johann Rupert from South Africa has $14.4 billion, and Mike Adenuga from Nigeria has $6.8 billion. Mr. Dangote's money grew significantly between 2024 and 2025.

Mr. Dangote owns many other businesses. He has a cement company that makes 48.6 million tons of cement each year. His cement company works in ten different countries in Africa. He also started a fertilizer factory in Nigeria that helps farmers grow more food.

The big oil factory changed how countries buy and sell oil. Nigeria doesn't need to buy as much oil from other countries anymore. Instead, it sells jet fuel and other oil products to other countries, changing how oil moves around the world.
