DCI probes Jirongo crash, CCTV reveals final moments

Investigators are digging into the fatal crash that killed former minister Cyrus Jirongo. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations confirmed the accident happened in the Karai area of Naivasha along the Nakuru to Nairobi highway. Jirongo's personal vehicle collided head-on with a public service bus operated by Climax Company Ltd early on December 13th.

A multi-agency team, including forensic experts, visited the scene. They reported a severe impact, with Jirongo's car thrown twenty-five meters from the point of collision. CCTV from a nearby petrol station showed his final movements, capturing him entering the station from the Nairobi direction, briefly stopping, then turning back toward Nairobi seconds before the bus hit him.

The bus driver, Tyrus Kamau Githinji, was questioned and released on bail, required to report back later. Police also took statements from a night guard and a fuel attendant present. Detectives are retracing Jirongo's steps, including a meeting at the Karen Oasis Bar in Nairobi, and will interview bus passengers. The completed investigation file will go to the Director of Public Prosecutions for review.
