Another person died from dengue fever during the past day, bringing the total number of deaths to 45 people across Bangladesh this year. Health officials confirmed that 358 more patients ended up in hospitals with the dangerous mosquito disease. The country has recorded 11,456 cases of dengue since January started. Doctors from the health services department released these scary numbers on Thursday morning. The deadly virus continues spreading through communities as monsoon rains create perfect breeding conditions for disease-carrying mosquitoes.
Barishal division saw the most new cases with 150 patients getting sick outside the main city areas. Dhaka North and South city corporations each reported 39 fresh infections among their residents. Chattogram division recorded 32 new patients outside its main urban center. Dhaka division added 45 more cases from areas beyond the capital city limits. Rajshahi division contributed 29 additional patients to the growing tally of infections.
The current death toll remains much lower than previous years when the outbreak killed hundreds more people. Last year saw 575 deaths from dengue fever across the nation. The worst year on record happened during 2023 when 1,705 people lost their lives to the disease. That same year brought over 321,000 total cases with around 318,000 people recovering from their infections. Health experts worry that peak dengue season has not arrived and more deaths could follow if prevention efforts fail.
