Dhaka witnesses, Hasina and Tulip, under graft fire

Four witnesses appeared before the Special Judge's Court-4 on Sunday to provide testimony in corruption cases targeting former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 22 other defendants. Mohammad Forhaduzzaman, Sheikh Shamsher Ali, Himel Chandra Das, and Akter Jahan gave statements lasting one hour under Judge Md Rabiul Alam's supervision. ACC Public Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam confirmed that three witnesses testified across two separate cases, while Akter provided evidence for a third case. The court scheduled October 6 for subsequent hearings in all three matters. Previously, eleven other witnesses had testified in these proceedings.

The Anti-Corruption Commission filed six cases between January 12 and 14 concerning alleged misconduct in the Purbachal New Town project plot distributions. Authorities accused Hasina of conspiring with Rajuk officials to illegally obtain six diplomatic zone plots for family members despite regulatory restrictions. The ACC submitted charge sheets on March 25, with formal charges filed against 29 individuals on July 31.
