Dijon shines spotlight on sun at Pouilly festival

Three groups team up to bring back their sun celebration this Sunday at a castle near Dijon. The Burgundy Astronomical Society joins forces with the Eiffel Association and Les Amis du Château de Pouilly for the event. Visitors can explore the castle grounds from 10 in the morning until 6 at night without paying anything. The festival returns after starting two years ago as a tribute to an older celebration from 1904. Famous astronomers Camille Flammarion and Gustave Eiffel created the original version more than a century ago.

About thirty different booths will showcase amazing things about our nearest star. People can look through special telescopes aimed directly at the sun and see science displays. Artists and technology experts will share their work about solar topics throughout the day. A theater performance starts at 3 in the afternoon for anyone who wants to watch. The festival mixes learning with fun activities for all ages.

This year marks important anniversaries for the astronomy community. Camille Flammarion died exactly one hundred years ago after founding the French Astronomical Society. The Burgundy Astronomical Society celebrates fifty years of stargazing and education. The group has grown into the biggest amateur astronomy club in their region. Members work hard to share their love of space with curious visitors from everywhere.
