Klefe chief urges Voltarians to embrace roots at Yam Festival

Paramount Chief Togbe Koku Dzaga XI encouraged Volta Region residents to maintain cultural identity during the Klefe Yam Festival celebration. The Night of Traditional Music and Dance featured performances by local groups showcasing ancestral customs through various traditional dance forms. Community members gathered at the town square to witness cultural displays aimed at connecting younger generations with their heritage.

The traditional leader expressed concern that foreign cultural adoption would weaken community bonds and personal identity. He compared people without cultural roots to trees vulnerable to strong winds that easily fall. The chief emphasized that Ewe traditions instill valuable qualities such as discipline and strong ethical foundations among community members.

Festival organizers planned an Ancestral Walk to educate youth about historical locations and deepen cultural awareness. The community seeks funding to complete a dormitory project for their technical school through the upcoming Grand Durbar event. Traditional music serves as a unifying force that transcends language barriers, demonstrating the richness of local culture.
