Dynamos Fans Boycott Rufaro in Fan Revolt

Dynamos supporters want fans to skip Sunday's match against Highlanders at Rufaro Stadium. Fan groups from Harare, Bulawayo, and Chitungwiza met reporters to demand major changes at the club. The team won only one game out of thirteen matches this season and sits near relegation. Supporters blame club leaders for eleven years of poor performance and bad management decisions. They want new people running the team and better players on the field.

The club cut ticket prices to three dollars for the big match but angry fans still plan to boycott. Dynamos last won the league championship back in 2014 and keeps changing coaches without success. FIFA banned the team from signing new players because they failed to pay two former players from Ghana. Supporter leader Benevolent Vono called the protest a revolution that might take years to succeed. Fan groups want to know who controls the remaining 49 percent of club ownership after Bernard Marriot-Lusengo claimed 51 percent.

Club executive David Chikomo asked supporters to attend the match and support their team instead of protesting. He said club officials work hard behind closed doors to fix problems and pay players as promised. The previous boycott attempt during the CAPS United derby drew weak support from fans. This time organizers seem more determined to force changes through empty stadium protests. Chikomo believes the second half of the season will bring better results for struggling Dynamos.
