E-instruments releases free Slower Fragment virtual instrument

E-instruments released a no-cost digital instrument called Slower Fragment that reproduces the distinctive audio qualities created when recordings play at half their normal speed on magnetic tape equipment. The software company built this product from material used in their commercial Slower application.

Four different tape recorder types provide the foundation for this virtual instrument's audio library. Users can select between professional studio gear like the Studer A812 and Revox PR99, a portable Uher 4400 Report machine, a Tascam Portastudio 424 MkIII cassette deck or a Sony M650v dictaphone unit. Each option delivers different tonal characteristics. The package contains six ready-to-use sounds pulled from the premium edition, spanning pianos with tape wear, rich orchestral textures, synthetic tones and woodwind instruments. Three simplified control sliders let musicians adjust multiple parameters at once, affecting saturation levels, echo spacing, pitch fluctuation and backward playback effects.

The application requires Kontakt or the free Kontakt Player software version 7.10.2 at a minimum. Compatible computers include Windows machines running version 10 or later and Apple devices with macOS 10.15 or newer operating systems. The full commercial Slower version provides 230 preset configurations across 65 source recordings with expanded modification options.
