Ecobank heist ring crumbles with Botswana, South Africa arrests

Authorities captured a third individual connected to Zimbabwe's massive bank robbery that netted four million dollars from an Ecobank branch. Bhekani Milio faced arrest while attempting to enter Botswana from South Africa on July 14. Police Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that extradition processes have begun to return the 39-year-old suspect to Zimbabwe. The arrest follows the capture of brothers Abraham and Elijah Temayi Vumbunu in South Africa earlier this month. Officials believe these men participated in the October 3 armed robbery at the Bulawayo banking facility.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police continues searching for additional suspects linked to the crime. Investigators previously released two individuals after prosecutors withdrew charges against them. One former suspect faces separate money laundering allegations while authorities trace assets purchased with stolen funds. Police have identified homes, commercial vehicles, and luxury goods allegedly purchased using proceeds from robbery. Takafa Vumbunu remains at large despite ongoing manhunt efforts targeting cross-border criminal networks.
