Freed Vumbunu brother robs Bulawayo Ecobank after 14 days

Police caught the notorious Vumbunu brothers after months of searching across two countries. Abraham and Elijah Temayi became famous criminals when they pulled off a massive bank robbery last year. The half-brothers grew up together despite having different mothers who married the same father. Their family comes from Mzilikazi suburb and follows both religious and polygamous traditions. Crime runs deep through their household with at least four relatives breaking the law.

Abraham walked out of prison after serving fourteen years behind bars. Two weeks later he teamed up with his brother to plan the daring Ecobank theft. The pair struck on October 3rd and made off with four million dollars in cash. Six armed men jumped from their truck and grabbed money boxes from security guards. People watching said the whole thing looked like something from an action movie.

The brothers have terrorized communities for nearly thirty years with their criminal activities. Police believe they committed many other serious crimes across the region. Their arrest happened during a joint operation between South African and Zimbabwean law enforcement. Officials are working to bring them back home to face charges. Community members feel both relieved and worried about how long it took to catch these dangerous men.
