Education Ministry audits 700 schools as student dies

The Education Ministry has audited safety conditions at more than 700 schools across Malaysia, and Minister Fadhlina Sidek said officials expect complete reports within two months. The ministry included proposals for the Safe School framework in its 2026 budget presentation, and Fadhlina said the request covers increased counseling for teachers and expanded mental health programs. The Chief School Inspectorate deployed all members to conduct safety audits with weekly reporting requirements after recent incidents raised concerns about student welfare.

Fadhlina said the ministry awaits police investigation results regarding a Year Four student who died after being found unconscious in a Seremban school restroom on Wednesday. Negeri Sembilan police received the report at 1:19 p.m. after the 10-year-old received initial treatment at a private medical center. The ministry has cooperated fully with authorities examining the case.
