EFCC boss warns NWDC chief on transparency and projects

The anti-graft boss just told a new agency chief not to mess up. EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede charged the North West Development Commission's head, Professor Shehu Abdullahi Ma'aji, to pursue its mandate with extreme diligence. He emphasized accountability and transparency during a meeting at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja.

Olukoyede stated that regional commissions exist to let zones develop at their own pace. He warned the leadership to show tangible projects after budget releases to maintain public trust. The EFCC boss urged preventive measures against financial mismanagement from the very beginning.

He advised against signing any unclear documents and stressed rigorous staff profiling. Ultimate responsibility rests with the managing director as chief accounting officer. Olukoyede promised the EFCC's collaborative support, anchored in integrity and compliance.

Professor Ma'aji sought a structured partnership with the anti-corruption agency. He wants to ensure the commission remains on track from its inception. The NWDC aims to drive socio-economic development through infrastructure and empowerment programs.

Ma'aji acknowledged that transparency and internal controls are fundamental for public confidence. He described the EFCC as critical for prevention and institutional strengthening. The proposed collaboration focuses on preventive advisory support and capacity building.

This initiative aims to entrench sound financial management from the start. The move aligns with broader government reforms for value and integrity. Both agencies emphasize preventing misconduct before it happens.
