Eguavoen confident Super Eagles can still clinch 2026 World Cup spot

Augustine Eguavoen believes Nigeria can reach the World Cup despite their difficult position. The former Super Eagles coach stepped up as temporary manager when Finidi George quit after just two games. Eguavoen guided the team to the 2025 AFCON before Eric Chelle became the permanent head coach. The 59-year-old remains confident about their chances of making it to the global tournament. He thinks the team has what it takes to turn things around.

Nigeria sits fourth place in their World Cup qualifying group right before the final matches. Chelle must lead his players to victory in every remaining game to secure the only available spot. The path looks extremely challenging but Eguavoen refuses to give up hope. He told ACL Sports that the situation requires careful handling but success remains within reach. The former coach stressed that Nigerian players desperately want to compete at the World Cup.

Eguavoen focuses on moving forward rather than dwelling on past disappointments. He wants the team to approach each match like a championship final. The former manager believes unity among all Nigerians will help push the squad toward their goal. He expressed complete confidence that the current group of players can deliver when needed. His positive attitude shows how much faith he has in Nigerian football talent.
