Elvis Moyo stripped of EFC title over 800g weight miss

Elvis Moyo rejected claims that his recent weight management failure represented deliberate strategy to generate interest for future contests. The fighter missed the heavyweight division's 120.2-kilogram requirement by 800 grams during last week's weigh-in procedures. Officials removed his championship status on Thursday before the scheduled bout against DR Congo's Matunga Djiakasa. The contest proceeded as a non-title match, with Djiakasa securing victory through second-round technical knockout. Moyo's defeat resulted in automatic title transfer to his opponent.

The Edenvale-based athlete explained that illness prevented successful weight reduction during preparation. He maintained his commitment to compete despite physical challenges and weight cutting difficulties. Moyo acknowledged that his title loss creates enhanced commercial appeal for potential future meetings with Djiakasa. The fighter suggested upcoming appearances in November boxing matches within Zimbabwe and December mixed martial arts competition. His statements addressed rumors suggesting orchestrated controversy designed to maximize revenue from championship rematches.
