Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa to launch National Development Strategy 2 next week

Zimbabwe will introduce its second five-year economic framework following cabinet authorization, with President Mnangagwa scheduled to formally present the development program covering 2026 through 2030. Information Minister Jenfan Muswere stated that authorities designed the strategy around 10 priority areas, including macroeconomic stability, infrastructure expansion, food security, digital innovation, employment generation, and governance improvements, to advance toward upper middle-income status.

Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube confirmed that implementation will follow structured monitoring protocols with quarterly assessments tracking progress across ministerial portfolios. The blueprint builds on achievements from the preceding cycle, during which foreign reserves increased from approximately 276 million dollars to over 900 million dollars, prompting World Bank recognition. Infrastructure completed under domestic financing included the Trabablas Interchange, airport modernization, and power generation additions of 700 megawatts at Hwange, while agricultural output reached self-sufficiency levels with wheat production exceeding 600,000 tonnes.
