Emmerson Mnangagwa hails defence grads, training takes center stage

Zimbabwe's president told military graduates that the government keeps working on training programs to fill skill gaps and boost security across Africa. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa spoke at a ceremony where 74 officers from nine countries finished their Joint Command and Staff Course at the Zimbabwe Staff College in Harare. The class had students from the local police, defense forces, and prisons, plus officers from Nigeria, Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, and Eswatini.

The president said these regional training partnerships help countries share ideas and work toward ending armed conflicts. He told the graduates to stay tough and use critical thinking in their jobs. The program sends students on study trips to places like Cameroon, Egypt, Lesotho, and Malawi to learn about regional politics and security challenges.

The 2026 budget put aside billions for the security sector to cover salaries, equipment, training, and infrastructure. China and Algeria donated tech support for the defense forces.
