Ex-Bangladesh Minister Lotus Kamal Accused of Massive Corruption and Embezzlement

A former Bangladesh government minister faces serious corruption charges after stealing millions of dollars from his country. A H M Mustafa Kamal worked as finance minister for only 72 days during five years of service. He used fake stock deals and bank loans to steal money from Bangladesh. Kamal moved to Dubai with his family after taking the cash. People call him Lotus Kamal because of his political connections.

Kamal and his family bought 18 expensive homes across the United Arab Emirates. His wife spent about 5,000 crore taka on real estate projects through her company Orbital International. The business started as a job placement agency but changed to building houses in Dubai. His daughter Nafisa runs a sports charity and plans to open a makeup factory. She also started a fashion company that sells clothes to wealthy customers.

The family bought property in six different countries around the world. Kamal got citizenship from Vanuatu through their special passport program. This allows him to travel to 130 countries without getting visas first. He opened secret bank accounts in Switzerland using his Dubai address. Investigators believe he started moving money out of Bangladesh in 2010.

Police cannot arrest Kamal because he lives outside Bangladesh with foreign citizenship. His corruption cases remain open but he stays protected in other countries. The former minister represents how powerful people can steal from poor nations. Bangladesh lost billions of dollars because of his criminal activities.
