Fahmi says Google asked to help trace an AI video email scammer

Malaysia's Communications Ministry plans to request assistance from Google during investigations of explicit video threats sent to government officials via email. Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil revealed that identical threatening messages appear to originate from a single perpetrator. The minister confirmed receiving similar correspondence himself just two days prior. Google will receive formal requests to help identify the individual responsible for creating and distributing these digital threats. Officials await the technology company's response to their investigative support request.

Fahmi has directed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to enhance digital forensic capabilities for verifying artificial intelligence-generated content. Investigators believe the perpetrator gathered official email addresses from Parliament and State Assembly public websites. Eight additional representatives received threatening messages alongside the minister. The criminal activities violate the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 under Section 233. Authorities may pursue additional charges under Penal Code Section 503.
