Fake Bookings - Agent Accused of Defrauding Clients

Talent Chetsanga, a 42-year-old travel agent, was in court on Thursday. She is accused of cheating people out of money. The police say she tricked clients who wanted to travel outside Zimbabwe.

One of the people she allegedly cheated is a lawyer named Shelliton Mahuni. He paid her $7,000 to arrange a trip to Hong Kong for his family. But when they got there in December, their hotel was not paid for. Mahuni had to pay almost $4,000 more for a place to stay. Chetsanga had promised to pay him back but did not.

Another person, Wilfred Chibage, also says Chetsanga cheated him. He paid her $6,475 for a family trip to Cape Town. This was supposed to include flights, a hotel, transportation, and fun activities.

On the day of the trip, Chetsanga called Chibage and told him to cancel because the tickets were not ready. He went to the airport anyway and found out that the tickets were booked but not paid for. Chibage paid for the tickets himself so his family could still go.

When they got to Cape Town, only half of the hotel was paid for. Chetsanga had not arranged any transportation or activities like she promised. Chibage had to pay for everything himself. He lost almost $7,000 because of Chetsanga's actions.

In total, Chetsanga is accused of cheating people out of $10,880. The police have not gotten any of this money back yet.

Chetsanga appeared in court before a judge named Isheunesu Matova. The judge decided to keep her in jail until Monday. Then, there will be another hearing to decide if she can be released on bail. Rufaro Chonzi, a lawyer for the government, is working on the case.
