FDC Cheers Ruling Shuts Down Military Trials

Court Says Army Courts Can't Judge Regular People.

The highest court in Uganda made a big decision that made many people happy. They said army courts can only punish soldiers who break rules, not regular people. All cases with regular people must move to normal courts where everyone else goes.

Mr. Kikonyogo from the FDC party thinks this is very good news. He wants the government to follow these new rules right away. But General Muhoozi said mean things about this decision during a special army day party. The FDC party thinks he should not say bad things about what the highest court decided.

Some people from the NRM party want to change the rules again. They plan to meet at a place called Kyankwanzi to talk about letting army courts judge regular people again. The FDC party says this is wrong and will fight against it because the highest court already said no.

The FDC party also wants to help people who wait a very long time for their court cases. Some people wait more than ten years in jail before anyone looks at their case, which saddens their families. Many people fight about land for thirty years before courts tell them who owns it.

The FDC party thinks courts need more judges and workers to speed things up. They want better buildings for courts and new ways to handle all the paperwork. They say people will stop trusting courts if cases take forever to finish.

The FDC promises to keep fighting for fair courts. They want to make sure regular people never have to go to army courts. They also want to help everyone who waits years and years for their cases to finish. They believe everyone should have their problems fixed quickly and fairly by normal courts.
