Flood aid arrives, Akwa Ibom victims get relief haul

Flood victims in several Akwa Ibom areas just got federal relief supplies. The National Emergency Management Agency, or NEMA, handed out items in Uyo for people hit by major flooding back in May. The impacted local government areas include Uyo, Ibesikpo, Uruan, and Nsit Atai.

NEMA's Director General, Zubaida Umar, explained that the effort is a special federal intervention for 2025 flood victims. She acknowledged the aid cannot replace everything lost but provides immediate help for rebuilding. Umar, represented by the head of operations, Mmandu Aisueni, urged community acceptance with gratitude. She noted the mixed emotions of the event, combining sadness over the disaster with hope from the support.

She also called for more local government action on policies and public awareness to fight weather-related disasters. Uyo federal representative Mark Esset praised the federal response, saying the quality materials would cushion the disaster's impact. A beneficiary from Nsit Atai, Idorenyin Inyang, said the aid would help during a tough period.
