Nyesom Wike cuts Ika, Akwa Ibom road - Azumini seethes

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike plans to open multiple infrastructure projects on Wednesday in Akwa Ibom State's Ika Local Government Area. Dr Essien Ndueso, who serves as Senior Special Adviser on Research and Documentation to Governor Umo Eno, confirmed the upcoming ceremony. The commissioning will feature a 14.13-kilometer highway linking Ikot Esu to Azumini, as well as 1.53 kilometers of internal roads serving Ikot Udom. These roads provide direct access to the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ekperikpe Ekpo's, home area. The highway extends from Ikot Esu-Otomo through Azumini Ndoki community into Abia State's Ukwa East Local Government Area.

Construction began during the tenure of former Governor Udom Emmanuel and was completed under the current leadership. Local Government Chairman Utibe Nwoko addressed earlier community concerns about territorial boundaries during the building phase. Azumini Ndoki residents had expressed worries about potential land disputes when work started. Nwoko emphasized that both states benefit economically from the completed transportation links. He urged Abia communities to welcome the infrastructure improvements rather than focus on boundary fears.
