Floods hit Penang and Perak as evacuees rise in Kelantan

Flooding expanded across Malaysia as Penang and Perak registered new evacuations while displacement figures climbed in Kelantan, Kedah and Perlis. Authorities established shelters for 128 residents from Tasek Gelugor after Sungai Jadak overflowed into surrounding communities. Perak opened two facilities in Batang Padang and Perak Tengah districts for affected households.

Kelantan experienced the sharpest increase, with nearly 8,000 people from four districts relocated to 31 centers as Sungai Melor water levels exceeded alert thresholds at Jambatan Melor. Kedah housed over 400 individuals across three locations in Kulim, while Perlis maintained shelters for 114 evacuees in Padang Besar.

Terengganu showed improvement with numbers declining to 359 displaced persons concentrated in the Besut district after conditions stabilized enough for some families to return home.
