Former NTV reporter killed in Valley Road hit

Police confirmed former NTV reporter Silas Apollo died in a road crash on Valley Road in Nairobi. The speeding driver who hit Apollo on Thursday night never stopped. Apollo worked for Nairobi Law Monthly during the accident when he walked across the road. His body went straight to the morgue since nobody identified him right away.

The driver later went to Langata police station, claiming he hit a dog near the Kilimani area. When officers contacted Kilimani police, they learned about a man killed there instead. Police held both driver and car for inspection but released the driver on cash bail as they investigated further. Friends later identified Apollo at City Mortuary. They said he lived along Thika Road, where he probably headed when the accident happened.

Apollo earned respect as a dedicated journalist covering politics, business, and current affairs with almost 10 years of experience. His death follows two other journalist deaths last month - Nick Mudimba collapsed at home on March 23 after a brief illness, and Frederick Parsayo was found dead on March 21 in his Kinoo house. Road accidents have killed more than 20 journalists during the past five years, including the famous writer Ken Walibora.
