From Backyard Chickens to Agribusiness Success

Hezron Opiyo started a small chicken farm in Kisumu County to earn money for college. His farm grew quickly.

Hezron worked hard, saving money by selling chickens. Then, he went to college, studying business and project management.

After college, Hezron had a choice. He could get a job or expand his chicken farm. He chose to expand his farm. He started a company called Kenya Poultry Farmers Limited (KPF).

KPF helps chicken farmers in Western Kenya. It sells them chickens and chicken feed, teaches them how to be good farmers, and helps them sell their chickens and eggs.

Chicken farmers have some problems. Sometimes, eggs do not sell for much money, and sometimes, chicken feed costs a lot. This makes it hard for farmers to make money.

KPF wants to help farmers. It makes chicken feed that costs less. It does this by buying the ingredients to make the feed from nearby farms. This way, farmers can make more money.

KPF also buys chickens from farmers and pays them a good price, which helps the farmers make money.

KPF bought some machines to make chicken feed, and some other companies helped it buy them. The machines help KPF make a lot of chicken feed, and the feed does not cost as much as other chicken feed, so more farmers can buy it.

In the future, KPF wants to help farmers even more. It plans to have farmers grow some of the ingredients that go into the chicken feed, which will make it easier and cheaper to make the feed.

Other companies are helping KPF. They want to see young people get jobs. They think companies like KPF can give people jobs. And they can help farmers at the same time.

Hezron's story shows us something important: Hard work and a good idea can change many lives. His chicken farm started very small, but it grew and grew, and now it helps many farmers have better lives.
