Gachagua Defends Helb as New Model Falters

Mr Gachagua thinks the old way of helping students pay for school worked better. He talked about this from his house in Nyeri on Sunday. He remembers how the old plan called HELB helped many students go to school.

He shared what people told him about the new school money plan. Many students cannot attend the schools they want because they need more help paying for them. Mr Gachagua said people ask him to help raise money for students who want to learn at big schools.

President Ruto made a new plan to clarify school money. He believed the old system confused people, and he wanted everyone to understand how students receive help with school costs.

The new plan divides students into different groups based on their families' monthly incomes. Students from families who earn less money receive more help, while students from families who earn more money can borrow money instead.

Last December, some important judges said the new plan wasn't fair to everyone. They said it broke some rules about treating people the same way. The people who made the plan said it treats everyone fairly because all students can ask for help with school costs.

Mr Gachagua remembers an old saying that tells us not to change things that work well. He thinks they should have kept the old way of helping students because it worked better for everyone.
