Gachagua says voters, not him pushing MP toward DCP

Gachagua says voters are the ones pressuring the MP, not him. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua denied forcing Githunguri lawmaker Gathoni Wamuchomba into his Democracy for the Citizens Party. He argued that constituents demand alignment with his political group for future elections. Gachagua stated his role involves only promoting the party platform, not intimidating officials.

He claims the choice belongs to citizens, not him. Gachagua distanced himself from accusations of threats, saying he merely sets a regional political direction. Voters then decide independently whether to follow that guidance, according to his statement. He insisted he never prohibited anyone from joining other political organizations.

Wamuchomba accuses him of using threats and insults for recruitment. The MP alleged Gachagua employs intimidation tactics, recalling similar pressure during a finance bill vote. She questioned his formal role within the party, noting official records lack his registration as a leader.

The legislator also criticized DCP allies who remain in other parties. She challenged them to seek fresh mandates under their new affiliation if support is genuine. Wamuchomba confirmed her commitment to remain within her current party until the next election cycle.
