Gauteng is about to get absolutely soaked today. The South African Weather Service says heavy rain and thunderstorms will hit parts of the country, with an over eighty percent chance of serious downpours in Gauteng and Limpopo. KwaZulu-Natal and the North West are also in for a wet day. Forecasters warn this could lead to localised flooding, damaging winds, possible hail, and excessive lightning, especially in the highveld areas of Mpumalanga and southwestern Limpopo.
Residents are being told to take this seriously and stay inside if they can. Motorists should exercise extreme caution on the roads, as the wet and stormy conditions are expected to last all day. The weather service emphasizes the potential for infrastructure damage from the severe thunderstorms moving through the region.
