Gauteng orders e-hailing apps to register with regulators

Gauteng transport authorities have directed ride-hailing application operators across the province to complete mandatory registration with regulatory bodies following recent amendments to national transportation legislation. The directive requires platforms to submit documentation through the Provincial Regulatory Entity at government offices in Pretoria, establishing compliance with safety standards and operational requirements under revised legal frameworks governing digital mobility services.

Transport executive Kedibone Diale-Tlabela indicated the registration process enables alignment between provincial oversight mechanisms and national statutory provisions while supporting sustainable industry expansion that benefits both service providers and passengers. The province separately announced plans to launch a government-operated alternative platform designed to enhance passenger security and introduce competition alongside established commercial services operating throughout South Africa's economic center.
