Gauteng speeds up road fixes before rains

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport is advancing a comprehensive program of road upgrades and maintenance to improve safety and support economic activity. MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela stated the initiative focuses on creating a connected transport system that benefits communities and businesses.

Recent work has included resurfacing roads and repairing potholes in several municipalities, such as Vanderbijlpark and Sharpeville, which has reportedly reduced accident rates. The department is also proactively monitoring and repairing sinkholes on major routes with engineering support. Furthermore, the department is preparing for the upcoming rainy season by allocating additional resources for rapid response to weather-related emergencies like flooding.
