GBA condemns blogger's detention, calls for fairness

The Ghana Bloggers Association has addressed the arrest and three-day detention of blogger Samuel Amadotor, who was accused of publishing false information about Okatakye Boakye Danquah Ababio I. While the association stated it does not support the deliberate spread of malicious content, it also expressed concern over the detention period.

The GBA commended police for following due process but urged authorities to uphold constitutional protections, including the presumption of innocence, and to avoid extended pre-trial detention. It encouraged all parties to let the investigation continue unimpeded.

In response to the incident, the association announced it would intensify training for digital media practitioners on fact-checking and ethical standards. GBA President Andre Mustapha Nii Okai Inusah signed the statement, which reiterated the group's commitment to a responsible media environment and the fair treatment of all individuals.
