Geradin Partners appointed competition law expert Ilkka Aalto-Setälä as partner-elect from rival Finnish practice Borenius, where he previously led the competition division. The addition strengthens the firm's Helsinki location, which opened with two partners following recruitment from Roschier.
Aalto-Setälä brings two decades of experience handling merger control matters, antitrust investigations, and regulatory proceedings before national and European Union authorities after earlier positions at Finland's competition regulator and the European Commission. He has represented clients in nearly 100 cases before the Finnish Market Court while serving as chairman of the Finnish Bar Association's Competition Law Expert Group.
The appointment reunites Aalto-Setälä with colleagues Mikko Alkio and Christian Wik, who established the office and previously worked together at Roschier.
