Get Your HPV Vaccine to Prevent Cervical Cancer

Health Minister Dr Pate shared alarming numbers about cervical cancer in Nigeria. Every year, about 12,000 women hear they have this disease. Most cases could be stopped with proper care. He talked to people at the Government Girls College in Bauchi during a vaccine campaign launch. The minister stressed everyone needs to learn more about preventing cervical cancer across the country.

The HPV vaccine offers protection against this disease. It works best when given early to people who might catch the virus. Without protection, these individuals face the risk of developing cancer later. President Tinubu supports these efforts completely. The vaccination program officially began in October 2023.

Dr Malami from the National Institute for Cancer Research explained something important about cervical cancer. Unlike many cancers, doctors know exactly what causes it. This makes prevention much easier than with other types. Medical experts understand what gives lifelong protection against the disease. Vaccines play a key role in stopping cervical cancer before it starts.
