Giant Skull's DnD Game Promises Buttery Smooth Combat

Wizards of the Coast partnered with Giant Skull to make a new Dungeons and Dragons action game. Former God of War director Stig Asmussen started Giant Skull during 2024 and began working on the project. John Hight leads Wizards of the Coast and reached out to Asmussen after their past work together. The team had already created a prototype that worked well for the fantasy franchise. Giant Skull specializes in melee combat systems that fit perfectly with D&D gameplay.

Asmussen says his team improved character movement compared to their Star Wars Jedi games. The developers started fresh with Unreal Engine and avoided past mistakes from previous projects. They built smoother motion systems without technical problems that blocked progress. The new movement feels faster and more fluid than earlier games. Giant Skull focuses on creating exciting traversal mechanics for players to explore game worlds.

Several other D&D games are coming from different studios over the next few years. Demeo x Dungeons and Dragons arrives this year with new content for fans. Starbreeze develops a cooperative game scheduled for 2026 release. Invoke Studios works on another project after making Dark Alliance. Hasbro confirmed one more mystery D&D game six months ago.
