Police officers fought with armed troublemakers in Kumbiya-Kumbiya Quarters of Gombe last Thursday night. The fight started when a police patrol team led by Inspector Isah Buba met a group carrying weapons at a dangerous spot. These attackers surprised the officers with cutlasses.
During the attack, Special Constable Ahmed Muhammad, age 28, suffered serious injuries that knocked him unconscious. When more attackers joined, Corporal Aliyu Nura fired his weapon, hitting one attacker named Umar Musa. The 25-year-old Musa later died at the Federal Teaching Hospital. His body remains at the hospital morgue.
The injured officer received emergency care at Zainab Bulkachuwa Hospital, where he continues treatment for internal injuries. Officers found two cutlasses at the scene after the confrontation. They noted one bullet had been fired during the fight. Later investigation showed the gang was organized by Haruna Kaura, who allegedly runs illegal activities around the area.
