A governor just formed a super-committee to settle land use wars. Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya approved a high-powered group to implement a white paper on grazing and forest reserves. The committee will also assess cattle routes across the state, aiming to address longstanding tensions.
The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, conveyed the approval. Representatives from key security agencies, ministries, and traditional institutions will sit on the committee. Farmer and herder associations are also included, along with technical bodies.
Retired police assistant inspector-general Babaji Sunday will chair the group. Key members include the state commissioner of police, the director of state security, and military commandants. The Emir of Yamaltu will represent the council of traditional rulers.
Leadership from Miyetti Allah and the farmers' association is part of the composition. Technical members include the state surveyor-general and the director-general of the geographic information system. A permanent secretary will serve as the committee secretary.
