Google, Qualcomm partner on Android PCs with Snapdragon X Elite

Google and Qualcomm appear positioned to deploy the Snapdragon X Elite processor in forthcoming Android-based personal computers, according to code discovered within Android 16's private development files by social media user Jukanlosreve. The silicon represents hardware released during the previous generation cycle, placing these devices behind current competitors, including Apple's M5 and newer Snapdragon X2 variants that Qualcomm introduced earlier in 2025.

The original Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus chips delivered substantial performance improvements for ARM-based Windows laptops when launched, combining processing capability with power efficiency. However, adopting this older architecture for Android computers could present challenges, given existing benchmarks showing the M4 Max outperforming even the latest Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme in certain single-core and multi-core assessments. Success for Google may depend heavily on competitive pricing strategies, though possibilities remain that Qualcomm could eventually integrate newer processor variants into the Android PC platform.
