Since 2018, bad people have taken 570 special animals called pangolins from the wild in Namibia. These animals need our help to stay safe. Romeo Muyunda from the animal protection office talked about this on World Pangolin Day last Saturday.
The government wants to make sure pangolins can live safely in Namibia. They made a new plan with other people who care about pangolins. They will tell everyone about this plan later this year. The government works with local people and groups like the Pangolin Conservation and Research Foundation to protect these animals.
In the last four years, people have helped save 35 pangolins. They made sure these animals were healthy before letting them go back into nature. The animal protection office watches these pangolins to ensure their safety.
Anyone who tries to steal or sell pangolins will be in big trouble. One person had to go to jail for nine years, and another had to pay N$800,000 because they tried to sell pangolins. Mr. Muyunda asked everyone to tell the police if they saw someone hurting these animals.
He wants people around the world to help save pangolins. These special animals need everyone's help to live safely in the wild. People can learn more about pangolins and tell their friends why these animals need protection.
