Kenya's Environment Minister Aden Duale met with workers from the closed Kenya Water Towers Agency on Wednesday. The agency used to manage important water sources in Kenya, but it was shut down in December 2024.
Duale said the workers will get new jobs in other government offices. He promised to match their skills to the right jobs and do this fairly.
Two other top officials came with Duale: Gitonga Mugambi and Festus Ng'eno. Mugambi is in charge of forests, and Ng'eno handles the environment and climate change.
Duale announced where the workers would go. He said 68 will move to the Environment and Climate Change Department, and another 45 will work in the Forestry Department.
Duale and his team carefully considered each worker's new job, considering things like education, job level, years of work, and health. They also considered where the workers live now.
The Water Towers Agency closed because its legal time was up. It also did some of the same things as other government groups, which was inefficient.
The agency's board was let go. Its leader and directors got other government jobs.
Duale wants Mugambi and Ng'eno to quickly finish checking the agency's money and property and count all the staff.
