Govt Awards Roads Contracts to Chinese Firms in Wakiso

The government gave two Chinese companies a lot of money to build roads in Wakiso. They will spend 107.2 billion shillings on these roads.

Monica Edemachu from the government said China Railway Seventh Group will make the Kisozi-Kitemu and Naggalabi roads. This job costs 41 billion shillings. The workers have 18 months to finish these roads.

"We must sign more papers for Mukono district," Edemachu said. "The big projects happen in Kira and Mukono. Everything looks good. We think all the road work will finish in those 18 months."

Another company, CICO, received 66.2 billion shillings. They will fix the 12-kilometer-long Bukasa-Ssentema-Kakiri road. Last month, the government said yes to another road project in Wakiso. They signed those papers on February 13, 2025.

Justine Mbabazi, an important person in Wakiso, asked the road builders to give jobs to people who live near the roads. "We want young people from Wakiso to work on these projects. This helps them find jobs," Mbabazi said. She promised to keep the workers safe during the road building.

Edemachu asked local people to help the workers. "The road work might bother some people. Many drivers complain about holes in the roads. The government made a big plan to build better roads. After two or three years, Kampala will look much better."

The World Bank provided money for all these roads, 566 million dollars, which equals 2.1 trillion shillings. This money helps places like KCCA, Entebbe, Kira, Makindye-Ssabagabo, Mukono, Nansana, Mpigi, and Wakiso.
