Govt Pumps Cash into Highway as Work Ramps Up Fast

The government gave more money to finish the Harare-Beitbridge Highway, with work happening around the clock. Most of the 585 km road is done except for a few sections near the Chibi tollgate, toward Ngundu Growth Point, and up to Rutenga in Mwenezi. Drivers and businesses are excited about the upcoming completion of this major route. They see it as an important step for making travel safer and more efficient.

Transport Minister Felix Mhona said construction teams had returned to the site, and more details would be provided during next week's road tour. The Transport Ministry posted updates online showing sub-base stabilization work underway in the Mwenezi District. Transporters call these improvements game-changing for their operations. Some unfinished stretches became very dangerous, hurting the project's reputation.

Cross-border driver Simbarashe Ncube mentioned losing lots of time traveling through the Ngundu area before these repairs. Another driver, Linda Mupfiga, called the bottlenecks past Masvingo terrible during busy holiday periods. Tinashe Chikwemba expressed happiness about the progress on the Trabablas Interchange, expecting it to open within months. This highway serves as a key connection between Zimbabwe and South Africa.
