Guehi snubs Liverpool, sets sights on Real Madrid

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has decided to pursue a transfer to Real Madrid after Liverpool's failed summer acquisition attempt. The Mirror reports that Liverpool nearly secured the 25-year-old England international for 35 million pounds before Crystal Palace withdrew from negotiations. Palace executives terminated discussions when they could not locate a suitable replacement during the transfer window's final hours. Guehi's current contract expires next summer, allowing him to begin preliminary discussions with foreign teams starting in January. The defender views Real Madrid as his preferred destination for career advancement.

Madrid officials have expressed interest in acquiring Guehi while simultaneously pursuing Liverpool's Ibrahima Konaté. The French center-back appears likely to depart Anfield after rejecting contract extension offers from Liverpool management. Liverpool manager Arne Slot acknowledged disappointment regarding the collapsed Guehi transfer but emphasized that such outcomes represent common football business practices. Slot encouraged all parties to concentrate on their respective club commitments moving forward. Both defenders represent attractive options for Madrid's defensive reinforcement strategy.
