Gunmen killed a Nigeria Customs Service officer at Fingila checkpoint within Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Monday. The attackers first targeted agricultural workers at nearby farms before moving toward the main road, where they encountered the victim. Seven motorcycle-riding assailants carrying sophisticated weapons forced farmers to consume food they had brought before ordering them to abandon their work for the day. The criminals then proceeded to the primary thoroughfare, where they found the officer seated beside a mosque.
Multiple gunshots struck the victim as he attempted to flee into adjacent maize cultivation areas. The first bullet missed its target while the second wounded him during his escape attempt. A third shot proved fatal after penetrating the crop field where he sought refuge. Two additional officers avoided detection by remaining concealed and later crawled through the agricultural area to safety despite sustaining minor wounds. Local residents identified the deceased as originating from Maiduguri in Borno State and described him as frequently resting near the religious building.
