Harare drivers furious as city scraps parking marshals

Harare authorities will eliminate human attendants from designated parking areas as digital payment systems take over operations across select central corridors. The capital's parking administration identified Third Street spanning Jason Moyo Avenue to Robert Mugabe Road and Park Street between Jason Moyo Avenue and Samora Machel Avenue as initial automation zones where drivers must handle transactions independently through smartphone applications and USSD codes.

Motorists can settle fees by scanning posted QR codes, dialing *192#, messaging a WhatsApp bot at 0719515601, or downloading the Park Assist mobile application ahead of the switchover. Officials framed the pilot program as foundational work toward embedding artificial intelligence throughout the city's broader parking infrastructure, urging residents to master the digital platforms before the transition eliminates marshal assistance permanently from the trial streets.
