A Harare court granted Tapiwa Chasumba protection from his ex-wife, who wants physical relations despite their 13-year separation. Margaret Mayemeka insists they remain legally married and should resume intimate relations. Chasumba told Magistrate Meenal Narotam he had already started another family and sees her demands as abuse.
Chasumba expressed shock at Mayemeka claiming they never divorced after such a long time apart. He stated he cannot betray his current wife and asked the court to stop his ex from forcing herself on him. He mentioned Mayemeka had remarried and divorced again since their separation, making her claims to be his wife invalid.
Mayemeka denied disturbing his peace or visiting his home. She did not oppose the protection order but accused Chasumba of making false statements. The court sided with Chasumba after hearing both parties present their cases.
